One of the most regular comments about the series is that it has a high gay content. Agreed, a couple of the main characters are gay, but most of the characters are straight, yet it seems even two gay men can make a novel 'gay' fiction! I never feel this way about crime novels I buy...never think, 'this has a lot of straight people in it', for example.
However, one of the reasons behind writing the series was to try and create a crime series with gay characters that everyone would enjoy reading about. By now, in the story I'm just finishing off, Wild Life, book six, the fact that Mike and Tom are living together is irrelevant to the mysteries. It is just one of the many relationships that make up Rilton Castle village life...
