Lorna Reilly is Patrick and Finn's granny, the mother of their late mother, Susan Ash. Norman is her old, bad-tempered Pekingese. She is based on Joan Saarl, my late brother's mother-in-law, a wonderful character who worked for Sotherby's and who had a monster peke called Tanker. Tanker, for a small fluffy dog, was tough, funny and had ten times the personality of bigger dogs. Lorna is not a big character in the first book but will return in future stories.
