The old bench outside the church, overlooking the almshouses. They are part of the Ash estate, are fully modernized and occupied, mainly by elderly villagers. Like many rural communities, there is no regular bus service any more into Dorchester, so the Reverend Ian Fish has arranged a bi-weekly mini bus to take pensioners into the town for shopping. There is also a small, warden-supported, development of flats in Dorchester, owned by the Rilton Castle Housing Association, for frail elderly who need to be closer to the town all the time.
