At the start of Country Life, when Tom meets the Ash boys for the first time, Patrick and Finn are searching in the pond to find caddis fly larvae. They pick up bits from the bottom of ponds and create homes for protection. I used to do this as a child and remember the hours I spent looking into the water of the ponds at our home, trying to spot the larvae.
