Aah, a big part of the inspiration for 'Country Life' came from the original books about Chief Inspector Barnaby, played by John Nettles. The setting, the community, the characters you find in the countryside. However, where the original books had some really well constructed crimes, the TV series became increasingly bizarre and the body count way too high. Although it has moved on and Joyce Barnaby has been replaced by a dog and a headmistress, the stories are still way over the top and the same actors keep coming back in different roles which makes owning the series on DVD slightly disconcerting....
