Deer, deer….

Muntjak deer are seldom seen around Rilton Castle, mainly because they are very shy animals. Originally escapees from ornamental collections, they have naturalized in parts of Britain and thrive deep in the woodlands of Ash Forest. There is a population of about fifty or sixty in the area but, due to their size and fear of people, you would be very lucky to glimpse one.
