One of the features of the real life Rilton Castle village, Milton Abbas, is the thatched houses. Many of them are thatched, either split into two cottages or one single cottage. While the Manor House, the Almshouses and a couple of other properties have tiles or slate roofing, most are like this and very beautiful as a result. They also have these wide open frontages so the village has a unity of appearance that is very special indeed.
